Restorations
Patient comfort is our priority at Eagleby Dental and we use the latest techniques and technology to ensure restorations are done as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Restorations are extremely important to prevent small cavities and cracks from worsening. When these problems get worse it can lead to the need for a root canal procedure or tooth extraction.
The longevity of a filling comes down to how it is applied. Our meticulous techniques ensure your fillings will last.
Composite resin fillings versus metal fillings
Composite resin restorations are recommended when damage to the tooth is contained and loss of natural tooth structure is at a minimum.
At Eagleby Dental we use a locally sourced high quality tooth-coloured composite resin for permanent fillings, as it is gentle on sensitive teeth. These fillings look and feel more natural than traditional amalgam (metal) fillings.
Gold or ceramic composite resin
Gold or Ceramic composite resin is is a stronger alternative that may be beneficial when a more extensive restoration is required.
We walk you through all your options so you can make an informed and confident choice on the best restoration treatment for you.
Periodontal Care
Gum Disease
Gum disease is also known as periodontitis or periodontal disease. It is a condition affecting not only the gums but also the bone that supports the teeth. If you find yourself with sore or bleeding gums or a feeling of looseness in your teeth, you may have periodontitis.
If left untreated, periodontitis can lead to acute infection or even tooth loss.
How is it caused?
The largest contributor to periodontal disease is inadequate dental hygiene. Most people are familiar with brushing twice a day; but without using proper tooth brushing techniques and flossing, plaque can be left stuck between teeth and gums, leading to inflammation and recession of the gums. This can potentially lead to the destruction of bone supporting the teeth.
How is it treated?
There are two stages to treating periodontal disease; the clinical treatment and the home care. The clinical treatment involves a detailed recording of the condition of the gums and a thorough cleaning of the build-up on the root surface of the teeth, below the gumline.
Home care is arguably more important than the clinical treatment in achieving the best results. By maintaining a good oral hygiene routine each day, the gums can return to their original healthy state. Our team will show you the best way to maintain healthy teeth and gums using flossettes, pixters and correct brushing technique.
Bridges and Crowns
What is a bridge?
A bridge is a type of indirect restoration appropriate for situations where we need to replace a missing tooth between two teeth that have reasonable structural integrity.
Crowns are created for the existing teeth, with a whole ceramic or gold tooth ‘bridged’ between them. This is a great alternative to a denture for replacing missing teeth, as it is a fixed solution and mimics a similar sensation to natural teeth.
Alternatively, you may wish to consider dental implants; another great solution to replace missing teeth.

What is a crown?
A crown is another form of indirect restoration. Unlike removable dentures they are a fixed prosthetic solution, hand-crafted for you in a dental laboratory.
When a tooth loses a lot of its natural structure and has been weakened by wear or decay, it becomes much more prone to breaking. This can lead to very a uncomfortable, painful, and potentially embarrassing situation.
To prevent this, a heavily restored or badly broken down tooth can be protected with a crown.
Crowns are typically made of porcelain – a tooth-coloured dental ceramic, which can be made to look and feel exactly like a natural tooth. A common alternative is a gold crown, which feels just as good, and is very tooth-friendly.
Where are Eagleby Dental crowns and bridges made?
Not all crowns are the same quality. While they can look similar, machine made or imported crowns often have varying tolerances which can affect their strength and fit.
A poorly fitting crown can actually trap decay in, and lead to further problems.
We have our crowns hand made by an experienced Australian dental ceramicist. So you can rest assured your teeth will remain protected for longer.
With our expert application technique, having a crown fitted is a painless fuss-free procedure.
Mouthguards
Mouthguards are important protection against trauma and injury to the teeth during sport. Professionally made, custom mouthguards offer a number of advantages over cheaper store bought alternatives.
Health fund rebates are available on mouthguards to keep out of pocket expenses to a minimum.
Benefits of a custom mouthguard
- Do not impair breathing or speech

Having a comfortable custom mouthguard made is a fast and completely painless process. It takes typically less that 10 minutes to take an impression of your teeth and recommend the most appropriate mouthguard for your sport and risk level.
Extractions
Tooth extractions are common and may be necessary for a range of reasons. Whether the cause is wisdom teeth impactions, decay, infection, trauma or for orthodontic reasons, sometimes a tooth should be removed to prevent further health complications.

With his expertise even the most challenging removals can be performed at the Eagleby Dental clinic under local anaesthetic. It’s a fuss-free procedure and patients can walk or drive home.
